This year’s wakeboarding event was held on Saturday 1st August with a
bumper crowd of around 300 who were treated throughout the day to live
DJ sets, delicious BBQ food and of course some awesome wakeboarding
tricks.
The event also attracted 35 competitors in U16 boys, U16 girls, rookie women, rookie men, open women and open men categories.
The day started well with world renowned good guy and top coach Brett Hodgkins whose coaching clinic had to be extended by over two hours to accommodate the interest.
Brett took the guys through some new style tricks that they wanted to work on and maybe incorporate into their set in the competition. There was some great progression here from all riders with very encouraging comments coming from spectators on how great Brett was.
Brett’s company, TeamDred, specialise in touring the UK and provide coaching clinics, demos and encouraging kids to participate and get involved in the sport.
With the competition starting after 2pm the 1st group up was the U16 girls with four entries which was eventually won by Hannah Laycock who rides with Active Scotland on Loch Earn.
Next up was the U16 boys with eight
entries which was a hard fought comp but eventually won by Charlie Long
from Ilkley in England.
Moving onto the rookie categories saw great
skills in both with Tabz Nixon and Mike Cook prevailing both hailing
from North East England.
Last but not least saw an easy win for Sam Fisel, the only open women entry, from Edinburgh and Stu Chatham from Kilmarnock who took the open mens with an awesome display including an indy blind 180.
Active Scotland, the main organiser, would like to thank all their supporters including RockStar, Belhaven, Morrisons Landrover Stirling, Wake & Ski Boats UK, Kiltie Campers, Buff Headwear, SnoWake Bulgaria and Xtreme Gene Spain.
Next year’s event is scheduled for the weekend of 7th August 2010.
